(reading time: 3")

Dear reader,

This is the first time I am writing in English in this blog so I want to apologize in advance if this article is bad-written.

Usually, when we hear the word "investing", we think about investing in stocks, bonds, minerals and nowadays cryptocurrencies.

Today I want to talk about the most essential thing that you can invest in, which is yourself.

INVESTING IN THE STOCK MARKET

Let's compare the investment in the stock market to the investment in yourself. Imagine that in the best-case scenario, your investments in the stock market give you a 7% revenue every year. Let's pretend that you are young and you have €1000 to invest, to reach €2000, it will take you more than 10 years. So in 10 years, you made €700, which is a really small number.

INVESTING IN YOURSELF

Now, let's consider investing in yourself. Investing in yourself is not always money related, remember that. We are in the same situation as before, you are young and you have just finished high school. Now, during your course of studies and maybe also before, you got an idea of what it is that you want to do in life, what is your dream job. If you want to be a doctor, an engineer, a lawyer, an investment banker, a manager or even a journalist, you need to get a degree in the area of your interest. Suppose that you get a bachelor's degree in economics, now you can pursue a master to specialize even more in what you want to do or start working. If you decide to get a master, you will need to study for another 2 years (that is how it works in Italy) but you will be more qualified and usually, it will be easier for you to find a job compared to a person that got only the bachelor's degree. Now you are ready to work, you got hired and you make €1000-1400 every month. After 5 years of investing in the stock market, you would've gained €350, but by investing in yourself and dedicating yourself full-time to being a student, in 5 years and 1 month, you have gained almost 3 times more than that.

INVESTING IN YOURSELF: WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Obviously, you could have done both things for sure, investing and studying, but it is very important to improve yourself, your skills and your knowledge and to not get lost in studying the best assets to buy because for the amount of money that you have, is simply not worth it.

Investing in yourself could also be, instead of scrolling reels on Instagram for 3 hours, maybe doing it for 30 minutes, and in the two and a half hours left working out, going out for a walk, reading a book, or an article, even better if this article is from this blog 😉, listening to a podcast in your area of interest and etcetera.

I AM NOT IMPROVING IN MY WORKING CAREER, WHAT DO I DO?

Another important thing to invest in is your career development. If you are in a company in which you have a big margin of career growth and you struggle to get promoted and you are at the same level for a long time, you need to figure out by yourself or with the help of your manager how you can improve, how you can get that promotion. You can get more specialized in your area of work by following a specialization course or you can improve your productivity by working harder or just by organizing better your way of working and becoming more efficient.

If you are in a company that does not promote career development or you have a job that hasn't growth prospectives, like being a cashier in a supermarket, you have 3 possibilities that come to my mind right now.

The first one is to continue working there, investing the money that you do not use in order to increase your revenues, or your pension, or to pay for your future sons' education or whatever you want.

The second one is to find another job that has a better offer than the other in terms of revenue and career development.

The third one is to follow your passions in your free time. If you always enjoyed for example nature and the growth of plants, you could open a youtube channel where you share this passion and your knowledge with the world and maybe if you are very good at this, it could become your job and your dream could be fulfilled.

Thank you for reading this article and I would really appreciate some comments in the section below to talk with you about what should I write in the next articles and what you think about this one.

I am truly sorry for my recent absence but I was really overwhelmed with my university studies and now I will try to be more consistent.

A donation would be very much appreciated because I really would like to expand my area of influence and open a youtube channel to make podcasts and videos about a lot of other things that I have in mind.

Thank you for reading and see you soon!
